Reflections of the Word

Praising - Thinking – Praying – Living – Applying are actions that add up to Reflecting.  What does the word of God mean to me?  How do I pray and live into my faith?  Many of these questions are asked over and over in the hearts of people on a daily basis.  Reflections of the Word are thought provoking readings of praise, prayers, scripture and expressions about who God is and actions that we can take to live into our faith right now.  Take a moment to reflect.

Today’s Message:  “Tell IT”
Matthew 11: 2-25 and James 5: 7-12

Introduction:   Who is John?  Who is Jesus?  Where is our joy this day?  What were the disciples of John looking for?  Are you grumbling with friends and family about little things?  What have you missed because you have forgotten the focus of this day?  Advent is a time to hope, love and forgiveness.  Before I set the tone for this reflection on hope for patience, I want each person listening to think about praying for all the questions that we want to ask God about who he is.  Take a moment to listen to scriptural readings from James 5: 7-12; now hear Matthew 11 from The Message.  This is the Word of God for the people of God, Let us pray:

Prayer:  Gracious Father we come to you today saying thank you for all that you give us through life.  Your gift of salvation provides all the mercy, love and grace that we need.  On this day we ask for a special blessing for families who are grieving from loss and sadness due to death.  Help all of us to call upon you O’ Lord for guidance; call upon Jesus Christ for His undying love and call upon the Holy Spirit for great peace and wisdom.  Move me out of the way, so that only your words for your people to come forth.  Cover us with your Spirit and open our ears so that we might receive your Holy Word.  Gracious Lord, nurture us through your Word, teach us to accept the freedom, release us from fear and unforgiveness so that we may receive your Power.  O’ Lord, let us know that your love is enough. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
