Pastor King selected to Plant a New Church in June 2007Nu Faith Community – A United Methodist New Church Initiative will be birthed in a new mission field located at Gears Road in the Central North District, where Dr. Jack Shelton is the District Superintendent. The Church Planters, Launch Team and all who accept the invitation to build will enjoy a spirit of -love, grace, forgiveness, peace, reconciliation and mercy. In a season where “rude behavior” is the norm, we are seeking to elevate love, grace and peace to a brand new level. For God has shared with us to bring forth a ministry for family that is grounded by love, peace and empowerment. As the sun rose and the water moved, God spoke to our hearts and gave us peace. That peace and grace is given to all freely. With this freedom comes a new church plant offering families a new way to connect with Jesus Christ through prayer, dynamic worship, spiritual awareness, mission-driven and topical, relevant evangelistically-focused small growth groups. Invitational, fun and hospitable folks will gather to embrace a new faith journey of ongoing transformation, which encourages self-discovery through Jesus Christ. |

It is with both joy and sadness that I come before you to share great blessings about a ministry opportunity of a lifetime. In January 2007, I attended the New Church Leadership Institute to walk in the discernment process regarding becoming a church planter. The season has come that persons have been identified to go forth and make disciples in new places. As of June 1, 2007, I will go forth as a church planter in Houston, Texas.
The love of Jesus Christ, St. Paul UMC and the city of Port Arthur, have helped to shape the beginnings of ministry for the King family and we are grateful. However, the next season will take us to a brand new level on all fronts. As we are preparing to go forth, I thank you for allowing Jesus to work upon your hearts that everything will be transferred decent and in order. For this race is God’s race. Let us thank God that all are called to run the race, which God has set forth for all to run with love, mercy and grace. As for Donel and I, the race for making disciples will move to Houston, TX, as the race in Port Arthur continues moving to another level under new pastoral leadership. |

With great prayers and praise unto to God, I want to share with St. Paul some good news. Over the next years and beyond, churches and communities will embark upon change and growth. Leaders are being prepared to start new churches and revitalize others. I have been invited with 10 other pastors from around our annual conference to attend a training called the New Church Leadership Institute. These weeklong events are jam-packed with tools to help build and renew the body of Christ including bible study, teambuilding, community analysis and expert coaching to help guide pastors through the process of church planting.
You may wonder, what this means for St. Paul; with that thought in mind, I will share with you what I know. The process is about 12-18 months and the conference is desiring to plant 10 churches annually beginning June 2007. Based on many factors, I will move when the Lord and the Bishop say so…therefore, this is a great opportunity for St. Paul to help pray, proclaim and praise the Lord for all those who come to know Jesus because new church plants will serve to address issues that traditional churches are not addressing today. Just as St. Paul has anchored the Westside of Port Arthur, new church plants will anchor spiritual connectiveness and transformation throughout the conference as each body seeks to offer evidence of fruitfulness as all embrace God’s grace, forgiveness, and Jesus’ love in new ways. |
